I recently sold my old computer on eBay in what should have been a very smooth transaction.
But the guy that bought my computer on found a dead pixel on the far edge of the screen and demanded a refund. I didn’t state any refund policy on my auction, but did say that I did not remember seeing any dead pixels.
So to be nice, I gave a refund upon the return of the computer.
I got the computer, he got a refund. Done.
Or so I thought…..
Somehow he tracked down my cell phone number and started to call me when he first found the dead pixel. I know he didn’t get my phone number from ebay because their policy says that if a buyer needs to contact a seller, the seller will be notified that the phone number was given out.
I received 2 phone calls this past week from him, using a blocked phone which comes up as “unknown” on my ID. I received another call this afternoon while at a store. On my way home, I received another call and decided to answer it. The guy stated who he was and said that he and his wife had discussed it and decided that I should pay the shipping charge that it cost to return the computer to me.
In my ebay message to them, I clearly stated that I would refund the cost of the item, and the original shipping charge and insurance. They responded to this as acceptable.
I didn’t want to talk to him on the phone, as I want everything to be via ebay, as is their preferred policy, so I told him that it was inappropriate for him to contact me on my CELL phone and he should take up any problems with ebay.
That’s when he went ballistic and started calling me obscene names. I hung up.
Then he called back and left a couple voicemails, preserved for posterity!
I then filed a complaint with ebay regarding harassment and letting them know that I had copies of the harassing, obscene, and threatening calls to my cell phone, which is a violation of FCC regulations, just in case ebay or the Federal authorities need them.
We’ll see what happens!
